Keywords: Film subtitle translation, Skopos Theory, Brave Heart (1995), TranslationĪbstract-The aim of the present study is to investigate translation strategies employed in the subtitling of Persian comedy movies into English. Based on this analysis, we can promote the films with Persian characteristics to the world so as to reinforce the cultural exchange between Iranian and the outside world. Thus translators have to meet their audience's expectations and tastes rather than just transferring source language information.
Films are created for audience's acceptance and appreciation as the basic principle. The aim of research is only to arouse the translators' attention on the application of Skopos theory to translation to have a better translation and help to find best strategy according to purpose of the translation. According to Skopos theory, the purpose of translation determines the strategies and methods. This research paper attempts to construct an investigation of some mistakes in the Persian subtitle translation of Brave Heart (1995), according to Skopos theory and suggest some strategies rather than literal translation to be adopted in film subtitle translation.
