*some of my favorite eye shadow primers are this one, and this one. But if you start with a great eyeshadow primer, you may just need to layer it slightly more to look closer to Mac’s shadows. This could be due to a pigment difference, or just the quality of the shadows. Lastly, they apply slightly lighter than the Mac shadows. Secondly, it seems like the Revlon colors have a bit more shimmer? I use that word lightly because they aren’t extremely shimmery, just more than Mac’s colors. I’ve never had that issue with Mac shadows, so I appreciate how easy they are.
I’m sure with practice, and the right brush, I could do a better job. I guess that isn’t a big deal if you do your eyes first, but still–I’m not interested in “cleaning up” while I apply makeup. I found that the Revlon shadows were much messier and were prone to crumbling onto my cheeks as I was applying. The first noticeable difference between the Mac shadows versus the Revlon shadows is the way they apply. But the shades are still warm and beautiful overall.The color that is not labeled is from the Revlon palette.
Paired with the Lily Lolo Natural Mascara, I get a soft, romantic look.Ĭompared to the Mac amber palette, Lily Lolo’s includes less yellow and gold undertones. To amp up the pigment for all the looks, I primed my lids with my cream foundation before applying. For a more dramatic look, I can also create a smokey eye, using the darker shades in my crease. And I use both the mauve and gray colors as eyeliner. I also like that I can use the light brown shade to define my brows. For a natural, daytime look, I stick to the matte shades. Like my Mac palette, the Lily Lolo palette includes both shimmery and matte colors. It’s Lily Lolo Pedal to the Metal palette, which gets a ranking of 1 on EWG. I’m happy to report that with Rikki from Credo’s help, I found a safe option I love. Credo sells only nontoxic cosmetics, and I hoped experts there could point me toward a clean eyeshadow swap. I recently stopped in my local Credo Beauty store in San Francisco. I needed to replace this Mac palette with something nontoxic. But now that I’m committed to clean beauty, my search for the best eyeshadow palette begins again. With both matte and shimmery shades, I could create pretty much any look with it. That’s the role previously played by this Mac Eye Shadow X 9: Amber Times Nine palette.
While I’m always excited to try something new, I have a few go-tos that get me through mornings, when I’m a rush and don’t have time to experiment, or vacations, when I need to pack light. I’ve spent a lifetime (OK, two decades) finding products that work for me. One tough part of making the switch to safe makeup: giving up my tried-and-true favorites.
